“If you can read this, thank a teacher.” - Anonymous teacher
“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” - Frederick Douglass
Here are the list of books I have read this year and thought you would find interesting too. I tend to purchase my books for my Kindle via Amazon but I believe that these books are also available in paperback/hardback versions.
Bounce: The Myth of Talent and the Power of Practice - Mathew Syed
Read by many I work with so I decided to see what the hype was about. Thought provoking and just goes to show that completing hours upon hours of practice can be mistaken for natural talent. This book can change lives if you are looking for a change. Fabulous arguments for psychology in sport and what makes an excellent athlete.
The Behaviour Guru: Behaviour Management Solutions for Teachers - Tom Bennett
Tom was a guest speaker at a CPD day. I found his talk really interesting and he was able to delve into the practical side of managing class behaviour. As a result of his session I decided to check out his books. This one was the first I picked and continues his good reflections on classroom management. Some ideas in this book are tried and trusted by many of my colleagues some are new to me. Each one of his ideas is met with equal amounts of humour and great understanding of behaviour and solutions that have worked. This book is available from Amazon click here. There is a lot to learn from this book even if you are a seasoned teacher, a must have for those starting out in teaching or working in a classroom environment.
Wicked - Jilly Cooper
Currently reading and will post review once finished.
